FAQ
Why film?
Film is emotional. It's pure and full of character. It's tangible. It's real. It's beautiful. Film is art.
Why panoramic?
Panoramic for me is for me closest to what our eye sees. We don't see square or vertical. Whenever I see a standard photography ratio I always feel I want to see what else was in the photo. Panoramic allows the viewer to see what I saw when I pressed the shutter.
What camera do you use?
I shoot on the 40-year-old Fujifilm G617 from 1985, which as the name implies gives you a 6cm x 17cm negative. That negative is truly a beautiful thing to behold. My other cameras that I use are various Mamiya’s ranging from the 70’s to the 90’s. I also have a Kiev 60, Rolleiflex and a Yashica. I guess I love Medium Format film cameras.
What film do you use?
I love all film stocks but my favourite colour ones are Kodak Portra 160 and Kodak Ektar 100. Both have their strengths so depending what I plan to shoot determines which one I use. A notable mention is Cinestill 50D.
When I shoot black and white my film of choice is Ilford Delta 100 or Ilford HP4 plus although I also like Kodak Tmax 100. But really, all the films are wonderful.
Who does your printing?
I print all my own prints that I sell. I have been burned before with drop shipping and providers not always providing the quality I expect. So rest assured that it's me taking the time and effort to make sure it's a quality print that I am happy to put my name on. I print 3 different sizes, 7x21 inch, 10x30 inch and 14x42 inch. If you have a specific size print in mind, please email me and I can work out some costs for you.
What paper do you use?
I have tested over twenty different papers and I have chosen Ilford Textured Cotton Rag for my work. It's a beautiful matte fine art paper, which has a slight texture that adds to its emotion and fine art feel. I use a Canon Pro 1100 printer with pigment inks and with this paper its archival quality is rated at 100 years plus. Maybe your great great grandkids might enjoy the prints too.
Shipping and Packaging?
Fine art paper is more delicate than standard photographic papers so I handle it with the utmost care when printing and packaging your print. To protect the print I lay a strip of glassine paper on top and then I put it into a thin plastic bag so it can avoid any moisture. I use a larger 6 inch diameter tube so the print is not rolled overly tight. Shipping is free worldwide.
